Hobbies and Extra-Professional Activity

Musique: piano forte (since 1976, advanced course in Paris), my references: Keith Jarrett, Erroll Garner, Thelonious Monk, Dave Brubeck, Claude Bolling, William Sheller, ...

Drawing: advanced course in Paris, my references: François Schuiten, Sandrine Follère, and european comics (Pilote, Spirou & Tintin journals), especially my favourites André Franquin and Marcel Gotlib. I am also the great grand-son of the post-impressionist painter Thomas William Marshall [1875-1914].

Sports: hiking (glacier, rocks, trekking), walking competition (Paris-Mantes), lauréat of the first "Bourse Expé" in 1993, bike every day / ngontel (I own a hybrid urban Polygon Heist 5.0, and a cyclocross Cannondale).

Electronics: High-Fidelity audio systems development (creation of preamplifiers, amplifiers, active & passive filters, three-way speakers).

Computing: Development of software utilities for data processing (very small and optimized programs), see for instance µGRAPH. I'm also using Matlab since 1991 (v 3.0 under DOS), and sharing some of my scripts. At home, I have started computing in 1980 with my first pocket calculator HP-33C, then in 1981 with a Sinclair ZX81, then Amstrad CPC464, and CPC6128... and various PC under Windows and/or Linux... now I set my sights on Apple Macbook Air and Pro laptops, and I am playing with virtual machines.

Sharing experiences: I have created this blog (in French): Gouffre Tarissan and I contribute to few Wikipedia pages.

Coffee: I'm owning a Rancilio Silvia espresso machine (with unpressurized portafilter; take a look to this extensive review in French), with a professional coffee grinder Ascaso i-Mini I-1 (54-mm Ø flat steel burr with electronic timer, doserless), and original 1-cup and 2-cup Bialetti moka for travel.

Photograph: I started with a Zenit, then a Nikon F601 (1993), a Minolta DIMAGE Xt (2003), a Nikon D50 with Nikkor 18-55 mm + 55-200 mm f3.5-5.6 (2005). Now I have a Nikon D300 with Nikkor 18-200 mm f/3.5-5.6 VR, and a Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8. See a selection of my personal photos or see Panoramio's map below (last taken pictures).
