Earthquake recurrence and fine scale tectonic geomorphology along the south-central San Andreas Fault

The south-central San Andreas Fault (SSAF) is the oldest and largest total offset portion of the SAF plate boundary (~315 km offset since the Miocene). Integrated analysis of earthquake recurrence, paleoslip history, and slip rate data gathered over the last decade from the SSAF yields important new understanding of arthquake behavior along this mature strike-slip fault. The slip rate appears to be steady over millennial time scales. Earthquake recurrence occurs over very roughly century-long intervals. Slip-per-event and rupture extent are variable and do not show strong segmentation.
