PARI – High Resolution Analysis Platform
From nanoworld to mega-scale
PARI provides IPGP with a state-of-theart analytical platform, consisting of a coherent chain of innovative equipments, to answer fundamental scientific questions in the Earth, Environment and Universe Sciences.
Our researchers and technical staff address scientific problems ranging from the solar system to the atomic scale, including that of the Earth, and in a time span from -4.56 billion years to present day. This work requires a range of instruments, grouped in a platform with high availability and visibility.

Several plasma-source mass spectrometers (HR-ICP-MS, ICP-QMS, ICP-AES) used to measure the concentrations of chemical elements in a wide range (ppm to < ppt) and as nanoparticles.
A segmented continuous-flow colorimeter used to determine nutrient contents.
An organic elemental analyser to measure CHNS contents.
A set of ion chromatographs used to quantify anions and cations contents and to isolate some chemical elements before isotopic analysis.
A flux-force coupling fractionation apparatus used to separate and characterize nano/micrometric-size species.
Two mass spectrometers dedicated to the measurement of isotopic compositions of noble gases.
Five mass spectrometers for the measurement of isotopic compositions of elements such as carbon, oxygen or sulfur.

Three Raman micro-spectrometers for the nondestructive characterization of geological materials (structure, properties) including one coupled to a scanning laser microscope and one portable unit.
A scanning SQUID microscope to determine very weak magnetic fields with a micrometric resolution.
A SQUID cryogenic magnetometer to measure induced and remnant magnetizations at low temperature.
A FEG-FIB dual-beam microscope for nanopatterning and nanomachining, as well as sample preparation for various analyses (EPMA, SEM, EDX, SIMS, nanoSIMS or LA-ICPMS).
A set of devices used to study thermodynamic and rheological properties.
