Patrick Allard, Emeritus CNRS Director of Research in the team ‘Volcanic Systems ‘ of IPGP, has been elected President of the IAVCEI (International Association of Volcanology and Chemistry of the Earth’s Interior) for the 2019-2023 quadrennial. He will be appointed on July 14 during the 2019 IUGG Assembly in Montreal, where the IAVCEI centenary will be celebrated.
Specialized in studying volcano degassing processes, Patrick Allard got his PhD at IPGP-Paris 7 University, then a State Doctorate with CEA, before working as CNRS researcher in different Institutes in France (CFR, LSCE, Lab. Pierre Süe, IPGP) and outside (Italy, Japan, Singapore). He will become the third only French president of international volcanology in one century (after Alfred Lacroix, 1922-1927, and Albert Michel-Lévy, 1936-1948), as well as the very first president coming from the volcano degassing research field.
